Author Guideline

The International Journal of Mathematics and Sciences Education (IJMSEd) welcomes original and high-quality scholarly manuscripts that contribute to the advancement of knowledge, theory, research, and practice in mathematics and sciences education. Authors are required to read and follow these guidelines carefully before submitting a manuscript.

1. Scope of Submissions

Manuscripts submitted to IJMSEd must be relevant to the journal's aims and scope and make a clear scholarly contribution to mathematics education, science education, or closely related areas. IJMSEd welcomes empirical research, theoretical and conceptual studies, systematic or structured reviews, development studies, and other scholarly contributions consistent with the journal's scope. The journal reserves the right to decline manuscripts that fall outside its aims and scope before external peer review.

2. Originality and Exclusive Submission

Manuscripts must be original, have not been previously published, and must not be simultaneously submitted to or under consideration by another journal. Authors must appropriately acknowledge all sources and disclose any substantial overlap with their previous publications or related manuscripts. Plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, data falsification, citation manipulation, inappropriate authorship, and other forms of research misconduct are not permitted. All submissions are subject to the journal's Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement.

3. Language

Manuscripts must be written in English. Authors are responsible for ensuring that manuscripts are written in clear, accurate, and academically appropriate English. Language quality may be considered during editorial screening when it substantially affects the readability, interpretation, or scholarly evaluation of the manuscript.

4. Manuscript Preparation

Authors must prepare their manuscripts using the current IJMSEd manuscript template available on the journal website. Manuscripts should normally be at least 9 pages, including references, tables, and figures, unless otherwise specified for a particular article type. Authors should ensure consistency in headings, tables, figures, citations, references, terminology, abbreviations, and other formatting elements.

5. Title

The title should be concise, informative, and accurately represent the main focus of the study. Authors should avoid unnecessary words, unexplained abbreviations, and overly broad claims.

6. Author Information

Author information should be entered accurately in the OJS metadata. This information should include, where applicable:

• full name;

• institutional affiliation;

• country;

• email address; and

• ORCID iD.

The corresponding author should be clearly identified. Because IJMSEd applies double-blind peer review, identifying information should be removed from the blinded manuscript where required by the submission system.

7. Abstract

The abstract should contain approximately 200–250 words and provide a concise and informative overview of the study. For empirical research, the abstract should generally communicate:

• the background or research problem;

• purpose of the study;

• methodological approach;

• principal findings; and

• main conclusion or implications.

The abstract should be understandable without reference to the main text and should avoid unnecessary citations and unexplained abbreviations.

8. Keywords

Authors should provide appropriate keywords that accurately represent the main concepts, variables, context, or methodological focus of the manuscript. Keywords should support the discoverability and indexing of the article.

9. Main Manuscript Structure

The organization of the manuscript may vary depending on the nature of the study. Empirical research articles will generally include:

Introduction

The Introduction should establish the research context, identify the relevant problem or knowledge gap, critically engage with relevant literature, and clearly state the purpose, research questions, or hypotheses where appropriate.

Method

The Method section should provide sufficient information to understand and evaluate the research process. Depending on the study, this may include:

• research design;

• participants or data sources;

• sampling procedures;

• research setting;

• instruments or materials;

• validity and reliability or trustworthiness;

• data collection procedures;

• data analysis procedures; and

• ethical considerations.

The methodology should be sufficiently transparent to support scholarly evaluation and, where appropriate, reproducibility.

Results

The Results section should present the findings clearly and systematically in relation to the research questions, objectives, or hypotheses. Tables and figures should complement rather than unnecessarily duplicate information presented in the text.

Discussion

The Discussion should interpret the findings in relation to relevant theories and previous research, explain the significance of the results, identify important similarities or differences with prior studies, and articulate the study's contribution. Authors should avoid claims that extend beyond the evidence generated by the study.

Conclusion

The Conclusion should summarize the principal contribution of the study and may discuss implications, limitations, recommendations, and directions for future research where appropriate.

10. Tables and Figures

Tables and figures must be relevant, clear, readable, and referred to in the main text. Each table and figure should have an appropriate number and title or caption. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted tables, figures, photographs, instruments, or other third-party materials where permission is required. Any third-party material not covered by the article's open-access license must be appropriately identified.

11. Citations and References

IJMSEd uses the APA 7th edition citation and referencing style. Authors are responsible for ensuring that:

• every in-text citation has a corresponding reference-list entry;

• every reference-list entry cited in the manuscript is accurately presented;

• bibliographic information is complete and correct;

• DOI information is included when available; and

• references are relevant to the scholarly argument of the manuscript.

Authors should prioritize relevant and credible scholarly literature rather than artificially increasing the number of references. Citation manipulation, coercive citation, and unnecessary self-citation are not acceptable.

12. Research Ethics

Research involving human participants, identifiable human data, vulnerable groups, animals, or other ethically sensitive materials must comply with applicable ethical requirements. Where ethical approval is required, authors should state:

• the name of the approving institutional review board, ethics committee, or equivalent authority; and

• the approval or reference number, where applicable.

For studies involving human participants, authors should state whether informed consent was obtained where required. Authors are responsible for maintaining participant confidentiality and protecting personally identifiable information.

13. Authorship and Contributorship

All listed authors must have made substantial contributions to the work and must approve the final manuscript. Guest, honorary, gift, and ghost authorship are not permitted. Individuals who contributed to the study but do not meet the criteria for authorship should be appropriately acknowledged. Authors are encouraged to provide an Author Contributions Statement, particularly for multi-author manuscripts.

14. Conflict of Interest

All manuscripts must include a Conflict of Interest Statement. Authors should disclose any financial, professional, institutional, personal, or other relationships that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the research. Where no conflict exists, authors may state: The authors declare no conflict of interest.

15. Funding Statement

Authors should disclose all sources of financial support for the research and/or preparation of the manuscript. Where applicable, the funding agency and grant number should be provided. If the study received no specific funding, authors may state: This research received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors.

16. Data Availability Statement

Authors should include a Data Availability Statement describing whether and how the data supporting the findings can be accessed.

Where data cannot be made publicly available because of ethical, privacy, legal, confidentiality, or other legitimate restrictions, the reason should be stated.

17. Acknowledgments

Individuals or organizations that contributed to the research but do not qualify for authorship may be recognized in the Acknowledgments section. Authors should obtain appropriate permission before acknowledging individuals where necessary.

18. Artificial Intelligence Use Declaration

Artificial intelligence and AI-assisted technologies cannot be listed as authors. Authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, integrity, citations, analysis, and conclusions of their manuscripts. Where generative AI or AI-assisted technologies have been used substantively in manuscript preparation, authors should disclose their use transparently. A declaration may identify:

• the name of the AI tool;

• the purpose for which it was used; and

• confirmation that the authors reviewed and take responsibility for the final content.

Routine spelling, grammar, or language-editing tools that do not generate substantive scholarly content need not necessarily be reported unless otherwise required by the journal. Authors must independently verify AI-generated factual statements, references, quotations, and other scholarly information.

19. Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain copyright in articles published by IJMSEd. Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0). The licensing and reuse of published articles are governed by the journal's Copyright and Licensing Policy.

20. Open Access

IJMSEd provides immediate open access to its published content without an embargo period. Readers may access and reuse articles in accordance with the CC BY-SA 4.0 license. Further information is available in the journal's Open Access Policy.

21. Article Processing Charges

Authors should consult the journal's Article Processing Charges/Author Fees Policy for current information regarding submission, processing, or publication charges. All applicable fees, or the absence of fees, are stated transparently on the journal website. No fee influences the editorial or peer-review decision.

22. Peer Review

Manuscripts that successfully pass initial editorial screening are normally evaluated through double-blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers. The Editor-in-Chief or designated editor is responsible for the final editorial decision.

23. Revisions

When revisions are requested, authors should submit:

1. a revised manuscript; and

2. a point-by-point response to the editor and reviewers.

The response should clearly indicate how each comment has been addressed or provide an academic justification where a recommendation has not been followed. A request for revision does not constitute acceptance.

24. Corrections and Retractions

Authors are expected to inform the editorial office promptly if they discover a significant error in a submitted or published manuscript. Published articles may be corrected, retracted, or otherwise updated when necessary to protect the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly record. Such matters are handled according to the journal's Publication Ethics and related policies.

25. Manuscript Submission

Manuscripts must be submitted through the official IJMSEd online submission system. Authors should ensure that all required metadata, declarations, manuscript files, and supplementary materials have been provided before completing the submission. Submission of a manuscript indicates that the authors have read and agreed to comply with the journal's editorial policies, Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement, Peer Review Policy, Open Access Policy, and Copyright and Licensing Policy.

26. Final Responsibility of Authors

Authors are responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and ethical compliance of their submitted and published work. Acceptance of a manuscript for publication does not transfer responsibility for the content from the authors to the editors, reviewers, journal, or publisher.
