Author Guideline

International Journal of Mathematics and Sciences Education (IJMSEd) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to the advancement of mathematics education research at all levels. IJMSEd publishes original scholarly work that contributes meaningfully to the field of mathematics teaching, learning, curriculum, and assessment. Follow the steps below when preparing and submitting a manuscript.

Step 1 — Check the Basic Manuscript Requirements

  • Written in English.
  • Minimum 4,000 words.
  • A4 paper size, single column.
  • Times New Roman, 12 pt, single line spacing.
  • Submitted as Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx) or Rich Text Format (.rtf).
  • References managed with Mendeley, EndNote, or Zotero, in APA style.
  • Original work, not previously published or under review elsewhere.
  • Similarity index no more than 20% (excluding references).

Step 2 — Arrange the Manuscript Sections in Order

The manuscript must contain the following sections, in this order:

  1. Title
  2. Author(s) Name
  3. Affiliation
  4. Abstract
  5. Keywords
  6. Introduction
  7. Methods
  8. Results & Discussion
  9. Conclusion
  10. Acknowledgement
  11. References

Step 3 — Follow the Requirements for Each Section

Title

  • 12–15 words; informative and concise.
  • No formulas or abbreviations.

Author(s) Name

  • Full name(s), no academic degrees or titles.
  • Written in capital letters (e.g., JOHN WILLIAM SMITH).
  • For multiple authors, provide complete contact details for all.

Affiliation

  • Institution name and department.
  • Complete mailing address and postal code.
  • Telephone number.
  • Email address of the corresponding author.

Abstract

  • One paragraph, 150–200 words, in English.
  • Cover: background, objectives, methodology, main results, conclusion, and contribution.
  • No references, formulas, or non-standard abbreviations.

Keywords

  • 3–5 words/phrases, in English.
  • Arranged alphabetically.
  • Not repeated verbatim from the title.

Introduction

  • Explain background, context, and significance of the problem.
  • Provide a concise, relevant literature review or gap statement.
  • Balance pure and applied aspects of mathematics education.
  • End with a clear statement of research objectives/questions.
  • 1,000 words, in paragraph form.

Methods

  • Instrument — describe research instruments; include validity/reliability and equipment specification.
  • Data Collection — describe procedures, participants, sampling technique, and timeline.
  • Data Analysis — describe and justify the statistical/qualitative methods used.

Results & Discussion

  • Include 3–7 figures/tables total; no duplication between them.
  • Do not repeat table/figure data verbatim in the text — interpret it instead.
  • Discussion must address the problem, objectives, and hypotheses from the Introduction.
  • Explain why/how findings occurred and their generalizability; compare with prior studies.
  • Number tables/figures consecutively; table captions above, figure captions below.
  • Cite every table/figure in the text before it appears.
  • Figures: minimum 300 dpi, JPEG or PNG.

Conclusion

  • One paragraph; no numbered lists or sub-points.
  • Address the problem formulation and research objectives.
  • State the research's contribution to mathematics education.

Acknowledgement

  • Recognize non-author contributors and their specific contribution.
  • Acknowledge funding sources and grant numbers (if applicable).

References

  • APA 7th edition style, managed via Mendeley, EndNote, or Zotero.
  • Every in-text citation must appear in the reference list, and vice versa.
  • At least 80% of references from the past 10 years; prefer primary sources.

Journal article: Author, A. A., & Author, B. B. (Year). Title of article. Journal Name, Volume(Issue), Page–Page. https://doi.org/xxxxx

Book: Author, A. A. (Year). Title of work: Capital letter also for subtitle. Publisher.

Book chapter: Author, A. A., & Author, B. B. (Year). Title of chapter. In E. Editor (Ed.), Title of book (pp. xx–xx). Publisher.

Step 4 — Apply the Formatting Rules

  • Page size: A4 (210 mm × 297 mm), single column.
  • Margins: 2 cm on all sides.
  • Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt throughout.
  • Line spacing: single (1.0); paragraph spacing: 6 pt after.
  • Alignment: justified.
  • Headings: bold, Times New Roman, 12 pt.
  • Page numbers: bottom center, starting from page 1.
  • Equations: MathType or MS Word Equation Editor, numbered consecutively.
  • Define all abbreviations at first use; use SI units.

Step 5 — Meet the Ethical Standards

  • Manuscript must be original and not under simultaneous review elsewhere.
  • Similarity index must not exceed 20% (excluding references); higher will be rejected without review.
  • Authorship limited to those with significant intellectual contribution.
  • Corresponding author ensures all co-authors approve the final version.
  • Retain primary data for at least 5 years after publication.
  • No fabrication, falsification, or selective reporting of data.
  • Research on human participants needs institutional ethics approval and informed consent.
  • Maintain participant confidentiality throughout the manuscript.

Step 6 — Prepare the Submission Package

  • Complete manuscript file (.doc, .docx, or .rtf).
  • Title page with full author information (name, affiliation, email, ORCID iD if available).
  • Cover letter to the Editor-in-Chief explaining significance and confirming exclusivity.
  • Similarity/plagiarism report from Turnitin or iThenticate (max 20%).
  • Ethical clearance letter, if applicable.

Submit the complete package through the IJMSEd online submission system. Incomplete submissions will be returned without review.

Step 7 — Know What Happens During Review

  1. Initial Screening — Editorial Board checks scope, format compliance, and plagiarism.
  2. Double-Blind Peer Review — at least two independent reviewers evaluate merit, methodology, and contribution.
  3. Revision & Resubmission — authors revise according to reviewer comments and resubmit.
  4. Editorial Decision — Editor-in-Chief decides: Accept, Minor/Major Revision, or Reject.
  5. Copyediting & Production — accepted manuscripts undergo language editing, layout, and final proof.
