PEER REVIEW PROCESS

Polyhedron: International Journal in Mathematics Education (PIJME)

Polyhedron International Journal in Mathematics Education (PIJME) is an international electronic journal published by Nashir Al-Kutub Indonesia Publisher. PIJME is committed to maintaining the highest standards of scholarly integrity through a rigorous, transparent, and timely peer review process. All submitted manuscripts are subject to a double-blind peer review, in which the identities of both authors and reviewers remain anonymous throughout the entire review process. The language of publication is English, and the reference management tool used by this journal is Mendeley.

OVERVIEW OF THE REVIEW SYSTEM
PIJME applies a double-blind peer review system to ensure objectivity and fairness in the evaluation of all submitted manuscripts. Under this system:

  • Authors do not know the identity of the reviewers.
  • Reviewers do not know the identity of the authors.
  • At least two (2) independent, expert reviewers are assigned to each manuscript.
  • The final decision on acceptance or rejection is made by the Editor based on reviewers' recommendations.

The Editor shall inform the corresponding author of the results of the review as soon as possible, typically within 15 to 45 days from the date of submission.

STEP-BY-STEP REVIEW PROCESS
Step 1  —  Manuscript Submission
Authors submit their manuscript through the Online Submission Interface of PIJME. The submitted manuscript must be written in English, conform to the journal's author guidelines, and be accompanied by all required documents. Authors must use Mendeley as the reference management tool.
Step 2  —  Editorial Desk Review
Upon receipt, the manuscript undergoes an initial desk evaluation by the Editor. The Editor assesses whether the manuscript:

  • Falls within the Focus and Scope of PIJME.
  • Meets the basic formatting and structural requirements of the journal.
  • Contains no major methodological flaws that would disqualify it from peer review.
  • Is written in clear and acceptable academic English.

Manuscripts that do not meet the journal's scope or basic quality threshold may be rejected at this stage without being forwarded to reviewers.
Step 3  —  Plagiarism Check
Prior to being forwarded to reviewers, every submitted manuscript is screened for plagiarism using Turnitin.com (Web Checker). PIJME does not process any plagiarised content.
Similarity Threshold: If a manuscript's similarity index exceeds 20% based on the Turnitin report, the manuscript will be returned to the author(s) for revision. Authors must reduce the similarity score to 20% or below before the manuscript can proceed to peer review.
Step 4  —  Double-Blind Peer Review
Manuscripts that pass the desk review and plagiarism screening are sent to at least two (2) anonymous, independent reviewers. Reviewers are selected based on their expertise relevant to the topic of the manuscript. Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on the following criteria:

  • Originality — novelty and contribution to the field of mathematics education.
  • Relevance — alignment with the journal's scope and current literature.
  • Methodology — soundness and appropriateness of the research design and analysis.
  • Presentation — clarity, coherence, and overall quality of writing.
  • Contribution — significance and potential impact of the findings.

The Editor aims to inform the corresponding author of the review outcome within 15 to 45 days from the date of submission.
Step 5  —  Reviewer Comments & Author Revision
Reviewers' comments and recommendations are compiled and sent to the corresponding author for necessary actions and responses. Authors are required to address all reviewer comments thoroughly and submit a revised manuscript along with a detailed point-by-point response letter.
Important: Revised manuscripts must be returned to the editor without delay. Any revised manuscript returned later than 20 days after the revision request will be treated as a new submission and will re-enter the full review process from the beginning. Revised manuscripts must be resubmitted through the Online Submission Interface.
Step 6  —  Final Editorial Decision
The final decision on acceptance or rejection of a manuscript is made by the Editor(s) based on the reviewers' recommendations and the quality of the revised manuscript. Possible editorial decisions include:

  • Accept as is — manuscript is accepted without further changes.
  • Accept with minor revisions — small corrections required before publication.
  • Major revisions required — substantial revisions needed; manuscript may undergo re-review.
  • Reject — manuscript does not meet the journal's standards for publication.

Step 7  —  Publication & Online Access
Accepted research articles will be made available online immediately following the completion of the peer review and production process. All published articles are available for free download with no access barriers, in accordance with PIJME's full Open Access policy.

KEY POLICIES
3.1  Plagiarism Policy
PIJME strictly prohibits the submission of plagiarised manuscripts. All submitted articles are checked using Turnitin.com before being sent to reviewers. A similarity index of more than 20% will result in the manuscript being returned to the author for revision. The journal reserves the right to reject any manuscript found to contain plagiarised content at any stage of the review process.
3.2  Revision Deadline
Authors who receive a revision request must return the revised manuscript within 20 days. Manuscripts returned after this deadline will be considered as new submissions and will undergo the full review process from the beginning, including a new plagiarism check.
3.3  Reference Management
PIJME requires authors to use Mendeley as the standard reference management tool. References must be formatted in accordance with the APA (American Psychological Association) 7th Edition style.
3.4  Open Access Policy
All articles published in PIJME are immediately and permanently free for everyone to read, download, copy, and share. PIJME operates under a fully open access model. The journal's current license is the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 4.0), which allows users to share, adapt, and redistribute the material in any medium or format, provided appropriate credit is given to the original author(s) and source.

3.5  Editorial Independence
PIJME ensures full independence in editorial decision-making. The acceptance or rejection of manuscripts is determined solely on the basis of academic merit and the outcomes of the peer review process, without regard to the financial capacity, institutional affiliation, or nationality of the author(s), and without influence from the journal's publisher (Nashir Al-Kutub Indonesia Publisher) or any other external parties.
